This weekend was a perfect example of that. No sooner had the EPT Grand Final finished that the LAPT was underway in Panama. Then between the two SCOOP 2015 kicked off yesterday with the first raft of events. Dust very much unsettled.
But before that there were two other winners who stood out not because their names were familiar, but because after a ton of work they’d each won a million dollars.
As Jason Kirk reported for the Blog, the PokerStars Makes Millionaires promotion made two people very happy this weekend. As you can imagine the finals were watched by thousands on the client and on the PokerStars Twitch channel. What they saw was the lives of JUANYI828 and citoject change in front of them. It’s a great story well worth reading.
Peering into the dust bowl this morning though and the first of the SCOOP winners began to emerge. There were wins for 77X8, and tchonchiti, but most notably Mohsin “sms9231” Charania in Event 4-H.
Charania is of course a former EPT Grand Final winner from back in Season 8 and two time WPT champion. The SCOOP win was worth another $198,000 to the American who had some stiff opposition in the closing stages, with Ryan “I need sheet” Yu in second place and Benny “toweliestar” Spindler in third.

But while SCOOP now takes centre stage we should mention a few things about the EPT Grand Final. It finished last Friday and, as is now the norm, went without a hitch, all thanks to the people behind the scenes who make everything look easy. It was a remarkable festival and produced some great winners from the start.
Erik Seidel took down the €100,000 Super High Roller event, denying Dzmitry Urbanovich a ridiculous achievement. Mustapha Kanit won the one-day €50,000 High Roller, before the final day brought wrapped up the Main event and €25,000 High Roller.
In the latter Charlie Carrel won a first prize of €1,114,000, the biggest of his career. Carrel had already made something of a live tournament breakthrough in EPT Malta, and enhanced his reputation further with the win last week. If you’re unfamiliar with Carrel I wrote a piece about his a few weeks ago after I sat next to him on the flight home from Malta. His dress sense is flamboyant to say the least, but he’s a personable young player with a great future.
The same could be said for Adrian Mateos, winner of the EPT Grand Final, and the first Spaniard to win a Main Event.
This has been one of those ridiculous statistics thrown around by the press every time a Spanish player went deep in a main. The difference this time was in the quality of Mateos. He deserved every moment of his win, which he handled with admirable grace and humility for a man of 20 who had just made a fortune. As our report on the Blog mentioned, he just keeps winning, and will take some great form to the World Series Main Event this summer.
Back to online though and this weekend had a few highlights. Top of that list was a win for Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody in the Sunday SuperSonic. Recent Sunday Million winner NutPopper was fourth. There was also two wins for FatmanScoops of Finland, who took down the $215 Weekly PLO and the $215 Weekly PLO Hi/Lo.
