Home / Uncategorized / LAPT8 Chile: Luca unlucky, Reis run down; 15 left

After a wild Level 20 in which 11 players were eliminated, just two went out during Level 21 at the Latin American Poker Tour Chile Main Event.

Things went relatively well for Ivan Luca early on today, with the Argentinian picking up pocket kings twice — each instance resulting in a knockout — and picking up chips as well.

Luca’s no stranger to success on the LAPT, having final tabled LAPT5 Uruguay (finishing fifth) among several cashes. He’s done well elsewhere, too, including on the European Poker Tour where he most recently finished fifth in the EPT11 Deauville High Roller.

Luca’s Day 3 momentum slowed, however, in Level 21, and soon he was all in for his last 150,000 with 6â™  6♣ versus Rodrigo Quezada’s Aâ™  Q♦ . An eight-high flop was fine for Luca, but an ace on the turn put his opponent in front. The river seven was close, but not close enough, and Luca was out in 17th ($9,860).

Following Luca to the rail was the Brazilian Pablo Reis in 16th ($9,860), his end coming after reraising-shoving a stack of 200,000 with Kâ™  Q♥ and getting called by Justo Esquivel who held A♣ 10♦ . A nine-high board followed, and Reis’s day was done.

It’s a career-best score for Reis after having cashes several times on the Brazilian Series of Poker over the last year.

Javier Venegas remains the big stack on the feature table with around 1.1 million, while Claudio Schafer has a similar-sized stack of about 1.1 million on the outer table with Fabian Chauriye next closest with around 950,000.
