It’s Monday. Time to go to work. For the 32 players still remaining from the 410-entry Latin American Poker Tour Chile Main Event field, each has put in plenty of hours already. But the most important — and potentially rewarding — work remains to be completed.
Of those 32, Javier Venegas will start the day with the chip lead after a profit-producing day at the office. He bagged 663,000 when play ended on Day 2.
One of six Argentinians left in the field, Venegas has cashed in LAPT Main Events before, including final tabling this very one in ViƱa del Mar back in Season 5 where he finished fifth. He hopes to carry his late-day momentum from last night over into today, and on further to tomorrow’s final table to improve on that finish.
In second position to start today is Fabian Chauriye, one of the 16 Chilean players who comprise half of the remaining field. Chauriye enjoyed the chip lead late last night before Venegas overtook him. He’s already bettered his previous best 42nd-place finish at LAPT6 Chile, and the further he gets today the more he’ll add to a career-high tourney score.
Bruno Marino (503,000), Rodrigo Quezada (426,000), and Nacho Barbero (424,000) round out the top five at present. Barbero, of course, is looking to set a new standard with a third LAPT Main Event win.
Nicolau Villa-Lobos, Ivan Luca, and LAPT7 Peru Grand Final champion Oscar Alache will be among those returning to stacks just above or right at the tourney average, while the lone remaining woman in the field, Renata Teixeira of Brazil, also returns to below average chips though a decent number of big blinds with which to work.
Speaking of blinds, play stopped amid Level 19 last night, where the blinds were 4,000/8,000 with a 1,000 ante. Click here for a look at the start-of-day-3 counts for all 32 players.
Play begins 12 noon today, local time (one hour ahead of Eastern, three behind GMT). The plan today calls for the 32 to play down to eight and a final table, and we’ll be here from start to finish to fill you in on what happens along the way.
