Home / Uncategorized / LAPT8 Chile: Tracking the travails of Team Try-Try Again

Like all LAPT Main Events, this one allows reentries, meaning those who fall prior to the start of Level 7 can buy back in today if they wish, with tomorrow’s Day 1B an option as well.

We’ve seen many players get felted already during the first five-and-a-half hours of play. The big board currently shows 117 players in action out of the 155 total entries thus far, with many of those who have been knocked out once soon returning for a second try.

The Brazilian Tony Baggio was one who has entered twice today, as was Super Tuesday champion Damián “pampa27″ Salas.

Salas’s earlier knockout started out as a “big blind special” that became special in the wrong sort of way for the Argentinian.

Playing from the big blind Salas had seen a player raise and three others call, and he called as well with 6♠ 4♠ . A J♠ 6♣ 4♣ flop then encouraged Salas to get all of his original stack in the middle versus an opponent who held A♠ J♣ .

Alas for Salas, another jack came on the turn and soon he was back at the cashier’s desk.

Sebastian Ruiz was another who joined Team Try-Try-Again after seeing his starting stack slide, then running pocket sixes into an opponents’ pocket nines. Unfortunately for Ruiz on his second attempt he’d again be all in with A♣ A♥ versus Daniel Aguilar’s Jâ™  J♦ , and when a jack fell on fifth street he was on the rail once more.

Meanwhile others have thrived so far during the pre-dinner portion of play, including a couple of Ruiz’s Chilean countrymen, Marcelo Villanueva and Juan Grispun, both of whom spun the 20,000-chip starting stack up over 60,000 during the first few levels.

Speaking of Chileans in the field, Nicolas Fierro, is playing as well today and presently sits with just about that starting stack. Known as “PKaiser” on PokerStars, Fierro picked up a WCOOP title last fall, one of numerous wins and big cashes he’s earned over the years. So consistent has Fierro been, in fact, he just this week returned to the top of the Pocket Fives worldwide rankings for online players.

Fierro has numerous live scores to his credit as well, amassing over $1.1 million in cashes. His best LAPT Main Event showing was an eighth-place finish back in Season 3 in Rosario, Argentina, but that hasn’t stopped him from try-trying again ever since to improve on that finish.

They’re nearing the dinner break and a chance for players to replenish themselves. There will be no more replenishing of stacks after the return, however.
