Home / Uncategorized / Weekend Review: GeoManousos headlines a weekend of big winners

There might not be anything to get you over the disappointment of coming second in an EPT Main Event, except perhaps winning the next one. But success online certainly helps, particularly when only a few short months before you’d made the momentous decision to move town and turn pro, giving all your energy to the game you love and knew deep down that you could succeed at.

Going into this weekend’s Majors Georgious “GeoManousos” Sotiropoulos, who came second to Julian Track at EPT Prague in Season 10, didn’t need vindication for his move to Vienna last year. The Super Tuesday win in October saw to that. But yesterday he went one better, capturing a Sunday Million title and that first prize of $211,024.

As Kristin Bihr put it in her report of the final table – whatever is behind GeoManousos’s streak, whether “pure confidence, sensational reading ability, or the alignment of the stars”, it’s still very much in force. But his win wasn’t exactly without obstacles, with Luis “Fizhh” Montaño, Jonathan “Gil3000” Gill, and Mads “Mr Longhit” Bertelsen all staking a claim to good story had they taken top spot. But it was GeoManousos with the page-turner.

That was the biggest win from the weekend, with more than 7,000 players signing on for the Million. Behind that the Sunday 500 earned $72,360 for Danish player marktb, slightly more than the Sunday Warm-Up winner Chris288 of Germany, who banked $70,566 after a three-way deal, as detailed in David Aydt’s report of the final table.

The highest paying events over the weekend were as follows:

Going back to that Sunday 500 for a second, the all-star line-up at the final table yesterday gave further proof that it is one of the toughest events to win online.

Behind winner marktb was Alan “Mr Negreanu” Gold, the WCOOP 2014 Player of the Series, in second place, with Jean-Pascal “hopezACE” Savard in fourth. A few places back was Niall “Firaldo87” Farrell in eight place.
