I once had this old lawnmower. After a hard summer on an expansive lawn, it would sit idly in the garage for a few cold months. When I’d come back in the spring, I’d have to rip off the air filter and spray ridiculously explosive aerosol starting fluid into the carb before there was any chance the old lady would fire up for a cut. Even then, it would be a few weeks before the beast would run properly.

The point of all that is this: Jorryt van Hoof is no old lawnmower.

As we reported yesterday, Van Hoof, third place finisher in this year’s WSOP Main Event, won the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up this week. We just sort of assumed he’d done something like that before. Furthermore, we just sort of assumed he’d been grinding all the time after the WSOP. That is, we assumed, he’d either been running hard since then, or found some way to prime the pump after a long layoff.

We were wrong on all counts.

After his win on Sunday, we asked him a few questions about what’s happened since he won millions in Las Vegas.

PokerStars Blog: First off, how have you been spending your time since the November Nine?

Jorryt van Hoof: I stayed in Vegas for five more days and had the biggest and best party of my life. It was an unbelievably crazy and fun experience with so many of my friends and family present. It was my birthday that week as well, so it turned into a week full of celebrations.

After that, I flew home to London. I didn’t even have time to get over my jet lag though. I flew to the Netherlands to play the Master Classics of Poker at Holland Casino as their ambassador. The entire week was another unforgettable experience.

From the Master Classics I flew back home again and took it really easy for a week before taking it even more easy by taking off for a short holiday near the coast of south England. The nature there was beautiful with a great spa and sleeping in a tree house, so that wasn’t a bad week either!

Last week I really felt like playing poker again, so I went to play at London casinos. It’s really funny because last night’s Sunday Warm-Up was the my first tourney since the WSOP finished.

It’s safe to say that this has been the best last part of a year for me ever.

PokerStars Blog: After you finished third at the WSOP, did it take very long to get over not winning?

Jorryt van Hoof: No, not really. At times the competitive part of me is a bit disappointed since I was so close. But overall I’m super happy with everything that has happened, also with finishing third.

PokerStars Blog: What did winning your first Sunday major mean to you?

Jorryt van Hoof: It felt pretty damn good. I have been so passionate about poker the past year and I feel very fortunate that I have been getting the results I have.

PokerStars Blog: After final tabling the WSOP, is there any excitement in final tabling an online tournament?

Jorryt van Hoof: Yes. I couldn’t sleep for hours, as I had so much adrenaline still running through me.

PokerStars Blog: So, after this amazing six months, how do you plan to spend the next year?

Jorryt van Hoof: I haven’t fully decided but I have something in my head as a guideline. I will use the first few months to work on my (tourney) game and to get in real good shape both physically and mentally. Then I’ll probably go and play EPT Malta. St. Julians has been my hometown for four years. After that, EPT Monte Carlo. I read they will have some awesome tourneys. I plan on going to Vegas for the full WSOP as well. Outside of that no definite plans. I’m looking forward to playing some more poker. That’s for sure!
