Home / Uncategorized / EPT11 Prague: What’s Troyanovskiy’s secret?

Whether he knows it or not, Vladimir Troyanovskiy has a secret, and he’s not telling anyone. He doesn’t know what it is, so he can’t, but if he could, he wouldn’t, for that would involve revealing what it was that gives him an almost permanent expression of thinly hidden mirth.

Troyanovskiy is a man who looks like he’s played a practical joke on each of his opponents and the suspense of waiting for them to find out is killing him. It’s all he can do to put his hand across his mouth. So what’s the deal?

Hang on, wait for it…

You wonder if in Leonid Markin’s case, his cup of tea is mixed with salt not sugar. For Stephen Chidwick, always a serious looking player when at work, there is perhaps a bucket of water perched above his bathroom door ready to soak him later tonight. For Juha Helppi it might be a layer of black shoe polish smeared on the inside of his sunglasses. And for Brian Roberts, well, perhaps there a thin layer of glue on the inside of his Houston Texans woolly hat, that will make it practically impossible to take off.

There, see what I mean?

None of these things are true of course, but to look at Troyanovskiy, a mischievous grin stretching to each ear as he plays on two spots off the money, it’s hard not to wonder what is it exactly that makes him look so content with his lot. Life is good for Vladimir Troyanovskiy, but nobody, perhaps not even Troyanovskiy himself, seems to know why.
