1K a Day. When it comes to online poker, that’s an ambitious, pie-in-the sky kind of goal, but this Dutch grinder had already surpassed that benchmark eight times over when he arrived at the final table of the Sunday Million. Armed with the chip lead, 1K_a_Day turned into somewhat of a punching bag for the short stacks in the early stages of the final table, doubling up three of them to land himself at the bottom of the pack with seven players remaining. However, 1K_a_Day rebounded by knocking out KD649 in seventh place and was back on top by the time play was five-handed. With the average stack totaling only 16 big blinds, the final four agreed to make a deal and 1K_a_Day assumed control on the first hand back as he doubled through Vershinin to take the chip lead. From there, 1K_a_Day eliminated every remaining player and took down his first Sunday Million title, banking over $119k in the process.

5,237 players bought in to the Sunday Million, creating a $1,047,400.00 prize pool. 765 places were paid with first place set to earn $163,847.23.

The blinds were up to 150,000/300,000 on the final table bubble and among the ten remaining players was Bernardo “bedias” Dias, making a run at his third Sunday Million final table in the last 16 months. Dias won the Million on March 23, 2014 and finished seventh on January 11th of this year, in addition to winning the Super Tuesday ten weeks ago. Unfortunately for Dias, this time he fell one spot short of the final table as his small blind shove with K♦ 9♥ ran into 1K_a_Day’s A♥ 2♥ in the big blind.

Seat 3: BennyIssi (4,955,000 in chips)

Seat 8: KD649 (3,983,952 in chips)
Seat 9: Vershinin (2,203,294 in chips)

Agermanovith came back from less than half a big blind on the final table bubble to make the final nine, but was on the rail after one hand. The action folded to Vershinin in the small blind, who moved in with A♠ J♠ . Agermanovith called with A♣ 8♦ , but his dominated hand did not improve on the Q♣ 7♦ 5♠ Q♥ 2♣ board.

Play continued eight-handed for another half an hour as the blinds climbed to 250,000/500,000, the average stack totaling only 6.5 million or 13BB. Although several short stacks made their move, none of them went out. BennyIssi ended up doubling to 8.04 million through 1K_a_Day when his A♦ K♦ flopped trip kings against 6♣ 6♦ . CrazySezya doubled to 6.54 million when his Kâ™  Q♦ flopped a king and rivered trips vs. 1K_a_Day’s A♣ 7â™  . And two hands later, Vershinin moved up to 6.2 million when his 8♦ 9♦ flopped an eight vs. ph1shman420’s A♣ K♣ .

Second-in-chips ph1shman420 hit a snag when he doubled up CrazySezya, whose Q♦ 9♥ rivered a full house against his K♣ 6♣ . Ph1shman420 dipped to 6.02 million, and three hands later, he three-bet shoved for 5.62 million preflop with Kâ™  K♦ . NY17PATS14 called with Q♥ Qâ™  and found himself in deep trouble. However, the flop fell A♥ K♥ 6♥ , giving NY17PATS14 the nut flush draw vs. ph1shman420’s set of kings. NY17PATS14 turned the 4♥ to make his flush and ph1shman420 missed a boat when the 5♣ rivered, ending his run in eighth place. NY17PATS14 took the chip lead with 15.2 million after the hand.

After doubling up several short stacks, 1K_a_Day’s stack was plundered further when Vershinin moved in for 3.43 million with Kâ™  Q♥ and he called with Aâ™  4♣ from the big blind. Vershinin flopped a pair of queens and doubled to 7.2 million, while 1K_a_Day was left as the short stack with 3.45 million. However, three hands later, KD649 open-shoved for 3.75 million with 10♣ 10♦ and 1K_a_Day looked him up with A♥ Q♥ . 1K_a_Day flopped an ace and doubled back up to 7.2 million while KD649 was left with only 694,000 in chips. Two hands later, 1K_a_Day claimed the rest of them when his Q♦ Q♥ held up against A♥ 2♦ and KD649 was eliminated in 7th place.

BennyIssi was next to fall. Down to 2.36 million with the blinds up to 400,000/800,000, he moved all-in from the small blind with A♥ Kâ™  and CrazySezya called from the big with K♥ 6♣ . BennyIssi’s dominating hand held up on the 10â™  9â™  7♣ flop, but the 8â™  turned to make CrazySezya a ten-high straight and BennyIssi had to settle for sixth place. Less than five minutes later, CrazySezya followed BennyIssi to the rail in fifth place when his 2♦ 2♥ fell to Vershinin’s 5♦ 5â™  on a jack-high board.

At this juncture, the final four players agreed to pause the action and discuss a potential deal. Here’s how they stacked up when the music stopped:

Vershinin 15,488,016
NY17PATS14 13,906,363
1K_a_Day 12,534,297
Jamaikaner04 10,441,324

With little fanfare, the final four agreed to a split of the remaining prize pool that left $20,000 in play for the winner.

On the first hand back after action resumed, Vershini min-raised to 1.6 million on the button and 1K_a_Day shoved for 11.57 million from the small blind. Vershinin called, his Aâ™  8â™  up against K♦ Jâ™  . The 10♣ 10♥ J♦ flop made 1K_a_Day a jacks and tens and although Vershinin turned the 8♦ to make tens and eights, the river blanked with the 9♣ and 1K_a_Day doubled to 24.26 million. Vershinin was left with 3.35 million and was eliminated in fourth place on the next hand when is 6♦ 7♣ failed to improve vs. 1K_a_Day’s Aâ™  J♥ .

When three-handed play commenced, 1K_a_Day held the chip lead with 29 million, NY17PATS14 was second with 14 million and Jamaikaner04 was the short stack with 9.4 million. Two hands later, Jamaikaner04 open-shoved on the button with Aâ™  5â™  and NY17PATS14 called with A♥ 8â™  in the big blind. Jamaikaner04 paired his kicker on the J♣ 10♥ 5♣ flop and doubled to 21.2 million when NY17PATS14 failed to improve on the 2♦ turn or the K♥ river. Left with 4.42 million, NY17PATS14 moved in on the button two hands later with Qâ™  10â™  . 1K_a_Day looked him up with 6♣ 8♣ and rivered a nine-high straight on the K♥ 9♥ 7♣ 2♦ 5♥ board, ending NY17PATS14’s run in third place.

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 2: 1K_a_Day (32,527,352 in chips)
Seat 7: Jamaikaner04 (19,842,648 in chips)

1K_a_Day ground his stack up to 37 million in the first ten heads-up pots before checking his option in the big blind to see a 9â™  8♦ 6â™  flop. Both players checked and the 8♣ hit the turn. 1K_a_Day bet 1.1 million and Jamaikaner04 called. The river was the Q♦ and 1K_a_Day fired another 2,888,888. Jamaikaner04 called, but could not beat 1K_a_Day’s 4♥ 8â™  for trips. 1K_a_Day moved up to 42 million in chips while Jamaikaner04 fell to 10.3 million.

Five more hands passed before Jamaikaner04 open-shoved for 8.58 million with A♣ 2♠ . 1K_a_Day found 9♣ 9♦ in the big blind and snap-called. The pocket nines held up on the 7♦ 6♦ 4♠ J♠ 8♠ board and after a long, grueling final table, 1K_a_Day at last locked up the win.

Congratulations to 1K_a_Day on joining the ranks of Sunday Million champions! He banked $119,895.02 for the win, while runner-up Jamaikaner04 earned $96,508.32.
