Five Canadians advanced to the final table in SCOOP Event #9-L. Only one was left standing when it got to heads-up. Unfortunately for Team Canada, mafien87was knocked out by Czech Republic’s silent assassin mafien87, who stepped out from the shadows late in the final table to pull off a remarkable victory in this two-day affair.

2015 SCOOP Event #9-L $11 NL Hold’em attracted a massive field of 19,623 runners. They created a prize pool worth $196,230. The top 2,475 places were awarded a cut of the prize pool, with $21,177.27 originally set aside to the champion.

The final table commenced during Level 56 with blinds at 150K/300K and a 37.5K ante. Costa Rica’s danger0us went into the Canadian-heavy final table with a big stack approaching 30M. Sh0ckdaWorld was the shorty with 1.9M.

Jabo936 eliminated in 9th place

The final table settled in for almost a full level before we saw the first bustout. One of the short stacks were ambushed by Aces. mafien87 opened to 1.4M, Jabo936 moved all-in for 5,814,622 with, and mafien87 snap-called with A♦ A♣ . The board finished up Q♥ 10♥ 3â™  8â™  4♥ and mafien87’s pocket rockets held up. Jabo936 was unable to come from behind to avoid an elimination. The Brazilian took home $1,177.38 for a ninth-place finish.

IKnewwwIt eliminated in 8th place

IKnewwwIt open-shoved all-in for 5,882,547 with Q♥ J♥ and aviator024 called with A♦ J♣ . The board ran out 9♥ 9♦ 3♦ 8♦ 8â™  . IKnewwwIt turned a gutter draw, but never got there by the river. aviator024 won the pot with a better Ace-kicker. For eighth place, Canada’s IKnewwwIt earned $1,766.07.

Sh0ckdaWorld eliminated in 7th place

Another Canadian liquidated. Sh0ckdaWorld bombed it all-in for 4,215,920 with J♣ J♦ and Pachila25 called with K♦ Q♣ . The flop spelled doom for Sh0ckdaWorld. The turn gave Sh0ckdaWorld some hope with a gutshot draw. Alas, the river was the apocalpyse. The board ran out K♥ 10♥ 3♥ 9♦ K♣ . Pachila25 took the lead on the flop, cracked Jacks, and never looked back. Canada’s Sh0ckdaWorld went busto in seventh place, which paid out $2,943.45.

j0hndayt0n eliminated in 6th place

Short-stacked j0hndayt0n made a final stand with K♥ J♥ by shoving all-in for 3,799,894, and Pachila25 called with Aâ™  J♣ . Neither player improved on a board of 10♦ 6♣ 2♣ 5♦ 8♣ . Pachila25 won the pot with a better Ace-kicker. Canada’s j0hndayt0n was knocked out in sixth place, which paid out $4,905.75.

With five to go, Pachila25 led slightly with 31M. Second place mafien87 was right behind with 30M. Meanwhile, LOLdemort brought up the rear with 4.7M.

LOLdemort eliminated in 5th place

Laughing in the face of death is always the best way to go. LOLdemort limped, danger0us min-raised to 1.2M, and super-shorty LOLdemort called all-in for 198,069. It was a joust between danger0us’ Q♦ 4♣ and LOLdemort’s 10♣ 9â™  . The board ran out J♣ 8♥ 2♣ 4♦ 3♥ . LOLdemort flopped an open-ended straight draw, but never got there. danger0us faded a straight and turned a pair of fours to win the pot. Canada’s LOLdemort busted in fifth place and took home $6,868.05.

With four to go, danger0us regained the lead with 35M and aviator024, the lone Canadian, was last with 11M.

Pachila25 eliminated in 4th place

mafien87 opened to 5.6M, Pachila25 shoved for 10,135,070 with K♦ J♥ , and mafien87 called with 9♦ 9♥ . The board did not help Pachila25… 5♦ 4♦ 3♦ 8♣ 6♥ … and mafien87’s pocket eights held up.  Argentina’s Pachila25 was bounced in fourth place, which paid $8,830.35.

With three left, mafien87 was the new leader with 45M.

danger0us eliminated in 3rd place

danger0us lost a 47.5M pot when Aâ™  7♦ got brutally run down by aviator024’s A♣ 4â™  with an unfortunate 4♦ on the river. aviator024 would eventually finish off danger0us in third place.

Short-stacked danger0us bombed it all-in for 11,383,678 with J♣ 7♦ , and aviator024 called with K♦ Jâ™  . The board finished up 9â™  6♣ 5♦ Qâ™  4â™  . danger0us flopped a gutshot draw, which never materialized. aviator024’s hand never improved, but aviator024’s King-high was good enough to win the pot. For a third-place finish, Costa Rica’s danger0us earned $12,754.95.

With two remaining, mafien87 held a 2-1 edge.

DEAL

The last two standing negotiated a specific deal with these terms: $20,000 for first place and $17,856.82 for second place. Once those easy terms were hashed out, play resumed.

aviator024 eliminated in 2nd place; mafien87 wins SCOOP Event #9-L!

Heads-up lasted 13 hands. aviator024 was never able to get anything going. Going into the final hand, mafien87 increased the lead 73M to 24M.

On the final hand… aviator024 min-raised 2.4M and mafien87 called. Both players checked the flop of 4♥ 3♣ 2â™  . The J♥ on the turn induced action when mafien87 shoved for 71,179,632, and aviator024 called all-in for 21,835,368. mafien87 flopped a gutshot straight draw and turned a flush draw with 6♥ 2♥ . aviator024 turned a pair of Jacks with Q♣ J♦ and was ahead. The 7♥ spiked and the river and aviator024 was flushed out. mafien87 dragged the pot with a flush and won the tournament.

For a runner-up performance, Canada’s aviator024 earned $17,856.82.
