Tomorrow night long after Day 1a of the EPT Main Event has drawn to a close and there’s more cash action remaining than tournament action the final table of the FPS Monaco High Roller will be playing out in a corner of the poker room here at Monte-Carlo Bay Resort and Hotel.

History this season has taught us two things about this event, that it will attract a large field of very talented players and that has the knock on effect of this €2,000 two day event going very long into the night on it’s concluding day. Such was the size of the field today that the event has been taking place in ‘The Americas Room’ which is a short walk from the main tournament room. The focus today for the 383 players who took their seats has been on building a stack that they can use as ammunition on Day 2 and ultimately to guide them towards the first prize of €144,100 or at least a min-cash of €3,650 should they finish 55th or above.

As play entered the half-way point of the 11th of the allotted 13 levels for the day 180 players remained and the average stack was a little shy of 64,000. One man with far more than that though is Joao Vieira. The EPT regular from Portugal has run his stack all the way up to 226,000 and leads a chasing pack that includes: Ihar Soika (165,000), Bryan Paris (157,000), Max Silver (155,000) and Jason Wheeler (140,000).

It’s looking like the basis for another strong performance from Vieira who currently sits fourth on the EPT Platinum Player of the Year leader board. He’s behind Davidi Kitai, Vladimir Troyanovskiy and Dzmitry Urbanovich in that one. Tough crowd!

The starting field included nine EPT Main Event champions and notables left in either by virtue of the size of their stack or the reputation behind it include:
