Welcome to the PokerStars LIVE Manila Megastack 2!

As soon as the sun tucked itself behind the horizon, the PokerStars LIVE Manila Megastack 2 took to its heels at the City of Dreams Manila with the first of its six events, the PHP2,500 No Limit Holdem Event, quickly buzzing around the tables. By the end of the allotted registration, 46 players had signed up generating a prize pool of PHP98,164 ($2,191). Although this is slightly lower compared to the previous entrants of this event in the first Megastack series, the winner will claim the first trophy and nearly sixteen times the buy-in which is a pretty good start to pad up one’s pocket for the following days.

While that is underway, here’s a rundown of what’s in store at the Manila Megastack 2.

This 5-day series will continue to mirror its first run with deep stacks in everyone’s arsenal. The idea is to give players lots of time to enjoy battling it out at the felt. Several key differences to note, all of the events are Official Asia Player of the Year events which means more chances to accumulate points to become the top dog by the end of the poker calendar. Also, and probably the most enticing and attractive boost for every poker player, the Main Event prize pool guarantee has doubled up to a sweet PHP2,000,000. So for those without a seat to the Main Event and looking to get in cheap, there are daily qualifiers to the Main Event Satellite and a Turbo Satellite to help you get your tush onto one of those cush leathery black swivel chairs by game time. For all the information you need, just head to the Manila Megastack 2 home page.

Now back to the PHP2,500 No Limit Holdem event which ended in just under six hours of play. For most of the day, local player Regie Ann Delos Reyes was clearly the woman to catch. She amassed a hefty pile early in the game and stayed strong until it was four-handed where her “Big Slick” landed top two pair but wasn’t good enough against Australian player Michaelangelo Longabela’s pocket sixes that connected with a set. At three-handed, the remaining players made a deal which led to faster play and in no time, Longabela scooped up all the chips with his pocket eights once again landing a set.

Congratulations to Michael Longabela for claiming the first trophy of the Manila Megastack 2! We shall be back tomorrow!
