Home / Uncategorized / EPT11 Malta: Dzmitry Urbanovich’s remarkable hat-trick

Whatever happens in the remaining five days of the inaugural EPT Malta festival, there’s almost no chance it is going to shift a man named Dzmitry Urbanovich out of headlines. And with a name like that, we’ve really got to want to write about him to give him coverage.

This is well worth the effort, though. On Friday, Urbanovich beat 68 of the best in the world to claim €572,300 and victory in the €25,000 Special High Roller, shortly before hopping into the €500 midnight turbo and making the final table. Yesterday, the 19 year old from Poland played the €1,000 deep-stack turbo big ante tournament. He won it, of course, outlasting a field of 156 to take €35,200 and another trophy.

But Urbanovich wasn’t done yet. Within the past hour, Urbanovich has taken his third title of this festival, winning the €5,000 re-buy tournament and adding another €110,000 to his coffers. The man known online as “colisea”, who has won SCOOP and WCOOP titles already on PokerStars, and chopped the Sunday 500 eight days ago, is transferring online dominance to the live arena in the most emphatic style.

Remember, registration is still open in the Main Event. It’s not even through Day 1B. Yet Urbanovich is already packing three trophies into his suitcase.

Dzmitry Urbanovich seals his first title of the week

“Sitting, playing, lucky, win,” he said, by way of explanation for this remarkable string of performances. Although English is not his first language, he is wry enough to have some fun with the reporters and photographers trying to get a quote to understand his run of form.

“What are you going to do?” he shrugged to Jules Pochy, during his third photoshoot in as many days. After Neil Stoddart had done the honours after Urbanovich’s second title, he had said, “See you soon”, with knowing confidence. Urbanovich duly showed for the second date, even if Stoddart had other commitments.

Urbanovich has now jumped into the €2,000 turbo event and will clearly be the man to beat. Should he eventually decide to play the Main Event, he’s going to take some stopping there as well.
