Home / Uncategorized / LAPT8 Chile: March comes in like de Leon

“It’s w-a-a-a-ay more fun when you have 100 big blinds.”

So said Christian de Leon just now, alluding to the fact that he’s built up a stack of about 240,000 — about 120 big blinds, actually — as the tournament nears the end of Level 13. Like a strong gust of March wind, de Leon has blasted to the top of the leaderboard here on Day 2.

The Team PokerStars Pro earned an early boost to his stack during the day’s first level after calling Claudio Moya’s all-in preflop shove. Moya had Kā™  Qā™¦ and de Leon Aā™  Kā™¦ , and when the latter’s hand held Moya was out and de Leon up in the way-more-fun zone.

Across the table from de Leon sits start-of-day chip leader Nicolas “PKaiser” Fierro, in a similarly comfortable position with a stack north of 100 BBs.

Fierro had been up over 300,000 at one point earlier, but now is back at about the same 240,000-chip level as de Leon.

Fierro’s fellow countryman Carlos Zapata had a good start today as well to flirt with the 200,000-chip mark briefly, although he’s now slid back down from those heights. Meanwhile a few dozen have fallen already today, among them Rodrigo Garrido.

We spoke with Garrido earlier this week about his Sunday Million victory in mid-February, then watched him build a big stack on Day 1A to become an early leader.

Garrido returned today with an above average stack of 84,000, but had slipped down to less than half that during the early portion of play while at the feature table. Before long he was all in before the flop with a pair of fours against Ricardo Milad’s pocket aces, and when a four flopped it appeared the Brazilian was in decent shape to build up once again.

Unfortunately for him, an ace fell on the river to give Milad a better set, and Garrido is gone.

Less than 100 remain at the LAPT Chile Main Event as the tournament swiftly moves along. The bursting of the bubble — due when the tournament reaches but 55 — is still a somewhat distant prospect, although at the presently blustery pace they may arrive there soon.
