Day 4 of the 2015 Aussie Millions Main Event is over and we have ourselves a final table of seven.

Lennart Uphoff. Anthony Legg. Joel Douaglin. Brian Rast. James Rann. Richard Lyndaker. Manny Stavropoulos.

One of those players will be crowned the 2015 Aussie Millions Champion.

It was a wild day on the felt of the Crown Poker Room with the returning 30 players quick to display their desire to win rather than purely survive.

It created some fantastic action in the early stages as we saw a staggering 18 eliminations in the first three hours of play.

The short-stacked Mike McDonald was first to go with the other high profile International player of the field, Phil Ivey, following soon after in 23rd place.

Ivey committed his last chips on a flop of 4♥ Q♥ 3♥ with a rather strong K♥ Q♦ for top pair and second-nut flush draw, but he didn’t want to see hearts after his opponent, Anthony Legg, moved all in with A♥ K♦ for the nut flush draw. Another heart fell on the turn which was disaster for the ten-time WSOP bracelet winner as the fans were disappointed to see Ivey hit the rail.

Others to fall during the carnage of the afternoon included two-time ANZ Player of the Year Tony Hachem (22nd), early chip leader Jan Suchanek (19th), Jesse McKenzie (18th), former EPT champion Andrew Chen (16th) and Sarkiss Osalian (13th).

With 18 eliminations in the first three hours of play, the rate of attrition would slow as the deep stacks allowed for some tighter play as the final table approached.

It would be another three hours before Calvin Ho lost a coin flip to depart in 12th place before defending champion Ami Barer’s tournament came to an end in 11th.

It was a mighty run by Barer in his quest to become the first back-to-back Aussie Millions champion, but in the end his A♦ J♦ couldn’t win the final race against Alex Lynskey’s pocket tens when a third ten appeared on the turn.

Another big casualty from Day 4 of play was the fall from grace of overnight chip leader Raiden Kan.

It seemed that the slowness of the evening session didn’t suit Kan who is perhaps more used to the fast-paced action in Macau. With a healthy stack of over 1.2 million, Kan check-raised all in with a big overbet on a board of A♥ 3♥ 10♣ 2♦ K♥ with just queen-high, but his timing was astray as Lennart Uphoff made the call with a baby flush. Oops.

Kan was out in 10th place and we were still two eliminations from the final table of seven.

Alex Lynskey bubbled the $25k Challenge earlier in the week, and he would again be left disappointed after copping some rough luck to miss out on the final table in ninth place, before former APPT Sydney champion Grant Levy would be our final table bubble boy.

Levy was gunning to become the first two-time APPT champion, and after previous results of 15th and 13th in this event, he was desperate for an opportunity to fight for the title, but unfortunately the TV table eluded him once again. Levy’s final stand came when he three-bet jammed with K♥ Q♣ and Lennart Uphoff made the call with pocket eights. The board bricked out which was heartbreaking for Levy but elation for the final seven who had successfully booked their spot on the Aussie Millions final table.

Leading the way is Brit James Rann (pictured below) who has already eclipsed his total career earnings with this result in Australia, narrowly ahead of New Caledonian Joel Douaglin. The locals will be represented by young gun Anthony Legg and Crown Poker regular Manny Stavropoulos, while the highest profile player on the final table is two-time WSOP bracelet winner Brian Rast.
