Of all the various tournament payout structures in play during the Turbo Championship of Online Poker, there are probably none more exciting than the Progressive Super-Knockout. Every knockout throughout the tournament is worth more money than the last, leading to bounty totals that often loom over most of the traditional payouts. They’re so much fun that there are five of them on this year’s TCOOP schedule in different variants, including today’s Event #29.

A $215 No-Limit Hold’em tournament with a 6-max format and the Progressive Super KO payout structure, Event #29 offered no late registration. When the first cards were dealt there were 1,529 players in the field, good for a total prize pool of $305,800, with half going to regular payouts and the other half to bounties. It took two hours and 14 minutes of play to whittle the field down to 216 and reach the money.

Three hours and 27 minutes into the tournament, the semifinal matches began. Team Online’s own turbo SNG specialist Grzegorz “DaWarsaw” Mikielewicz was still in the hunt at that point, along with Jon “PearlJammer” Turner. Neither player was able to crack the final table, though – Turner cashed out in 20th place ($1,070.30 plus $1,218.74 in bounties), while DaWarsaw took 18th ($1,070.30 plus $1,302.34 in bounties).

These six players won their tables in the penultimate round to reach the final table:

Seat 1: jstclkdabtn (5,000 in chips)
Seat 2: FrankTaylor3 (5,000 in chips)
Seat 3: AAgoodfold (5,000 in chips)
Seat 4: unicornslayr (5,000 in chips)
Seat 5: Karahan31rus (5,000 in chips)
Seat 6: touchmynuts1 (5,000 in chips)

Most of the pots in the early going remained small, with just a handful of exception that provided for a few shifts in the chip counts as the blinds rose from 25/50 to 80/160 with a 20-chip ante. Then a burst of action came along before the flop on Hand #32, creating a 60-big-blind pot five times larger than any other that had been played so far.

Australia’s jstclkdabtn opened the pot with a minimum raise to 320 under the gun, a bet which Russia’s FrankTaylor3 followed up in the hijack seat with a re-raise to 824. The rest of the table folded and jstclkdabtn jammed for 4,656 chips total, showing K♣ Q♣ when FrankTaylor3 snap-called with A♥ Kâ™  . The dominating hand stayed ahead through the 8â™  6♣ 6â™  flop and 10♥ turn, but the Q♦ on the river kept jstclkdabtn in the game with a pair of queens, good for the 9,632-chip pot.

That left FrankTaylor3 with only 252 chips, all of which went in the middle under the gun on the following hand with A♠ 5♠ . Ukrainian player touchmynuts1 called in the small blind with Q♦ 8♦ and hit a pair of queens on the river of the 2♠ J♦ 7♣ K♣ Q♣ board to take the pot. With that FrankTaylor3 was eliminated in 6th place ($3,791.92 plus $2,699.98 in bounties).

Hand #43 saw another big confrontation before the flop. unicornslayr opened for 575 in the cutoff before touchmynuts1 made it three bets for 1,388 chips. unicornslayr responded with a fourth bet to 2,600, then called when touchmynuts1 jammed for 7,460. touchmynuts1’s A♣ K♥ was racing with unicornslayr’s Q♣ Qâ™  but fell desperately behind when the pair of queens became a set on the Q♦ 5♦ 2♣ flop. The 5â™  on the turn made that set a full house, and the 2♥ river was the formality that knocked touchmynuts1 out in 5th place ($6,116 plus $4,054.26 in bounties).

The home stretch

With blinds and antes at 150/300/35, unicornslayr was in excellent position moving ahead:

Seat 1: jstclkdabtn (7,026 in chips)
Seat 3: AAgoodfold (2,721 in chips)
Seat 4: unicornslayr (17,735 in chips)
Seat 5: Karahan31rus (2,518 in chips)

As it turned out, there were just 23 hands left to be played in the tournament. The first five were split relatively evenly among the remaining players, including a double-up for Karahan31rus with J♣ 10♣ against unicornslayr’s 9♥ 8♦ , but 15 of the last 18 would be shipped to the stack of jstclkdabtn.

The ball got rolling when Romania’s AAgoodfold jammed for 2,561 chips under the gun, holding A♦ Qâ™  , and jstclkdabtn called in the big blind with A♥ K♥ . One 3♣ 7♦ 5â™  10♥ 9♦ board later and AAgoodfold was on the rail in 4th place ($9,174 plus $2,040.21 in bounties).

Seven hands later came another pot played out with unimproved hands, with a much bigger pot won at showdown. jstclkdabtn opened with a raise to 776 in the small blind and unicornslayr called, bringing a 7♦ 4♥ 3♦ flop. jstclkdabtn led for 750, just under half the pot, and unicornslayr called. jstclkdabtn bet 1,578 after the Q♣ turn, then called a unicornslayr raise to 3,333 to see the 9♥ hit the river. jstclkdabtn checked and unicornslayr, after dipping into the time bank, checked as well. jstclkdabtn showed A♥ 5♥ for ace-high, which was good for the 9,823-chip pot and a move ahead of unicornslayr into first place.

Karahan31rus managed a blind steal after that, but the rest of the next eight pots all went to jstclkdabtn. Then came Hand #65, when Karahan31rus opened with an all-in raise to 2,616 in the small blind, holding Q♦ 4♦ , and jstclkdabtn called in the big blind with K♣ Q♠ . The J♥ 8♥ 3♠ 9♥ 9♠ gave no help and Karahan31rus was gone in 3rd place ($13,761 + $2,764.03).

That gave jstclkdabtn a 22,367-7,633 chip lead going into a heads-up match that would last a single hand. jstclkdabtn opened with a minimum raise to 800 on the button, then jammed when unicornslayr re-raised to 1,700 in the small blind. unicornslayr eventually called and showed K♥ 10♣ , trailing jstclkdabtn’s A♦ Q♦ and looking for a king or ten to take the lead. Instead the board came Jâ™  4♦ 5♥ 3♥ 9â™  , bringing the tournament to a close.

unicornslayr earned $18,348 plus another $4,850.54 in bounties, both numbers that dwarf the U.K. player’s previous best cash of $1,712. It was also a record-setting win for jstclkdabtn, whose previous best cash here at PokerStars was a bit more than $4,700. Besides the TCOOP title, winning Event #29 was worth $24,465.08 to the Australian player and another $8,195.90 in bounties. Congratulations to both players on their big wins!
