Players are currently enjoying level 3 of the day. There are 440 players at this point which is already nearly 100 more than Day 1A last year. Back then 328 players stump up €1,000 to take a shot on Day 1A, and with registration open until the end of the break after level 4, there’s a decent chance of the number creeping close to 500.

Everyone wants to play the FPS Main Event today…

One of the reasons for the increase in numbers was the fact that the last FPS event, in Paris, was cancelled back in November. Players were given the option of using their package in SCOOP buy-ins or saving it for this very event. Around 390 players had qualified for FPS Paris and while the majority chose to use their refund for the online tournament series, many have instead made the journey to Normandy to participate today.

The tournament room is already busy and it’s only going to get busier over the next 11 days…

While the field is almost completely French, there are a couple of players who have braved the European winters to make it here.

Paul Berende, an EPT regular who has previously made the High Roller final table in Monte Carlo back in 2010, is one of the few notables playing today. Briton Alex Goulder, who finished 11th in the EPT Main Event last year here in Deauville, is also among those playing. When I spoke to him about other potential British ‘invaders’ he mentioned a couple of players such as Ben Dobson and Nick Hicks, but did not believe there would be a sizeable British presence for the FPS.
