They’re moving into the latter stages of play on what has been an amazing Day 1 of the LAPT Bahamas Main Event. Alas for some the most recent developments haven’t been as amazing as they’d have liked.
Team PokerStars Pro Christian de Leon was one of the many late night knockouts, having lost most of his stack after getting his aces cracked before dinner and then the rest afterwards.
A couple of SuperNova Elites tangled when Juan Martin Pastor took 5♦ 5♥ up against Francisco “paulwiter” Garcia’s A♥ Qâ™ . No help came for Garcia who was thus eliminated.
And 2014 PCA Main Event winner Dominik Panka with whom we were speaking earlier has also been knocked out. All in with J♠8♣ on a 8♠6♦ 5♥ flop, Panka was the victim of a bit of a slowroll when his opponent took a little long with the rechecking of his cards before calling with 9♥ 7♣ . Two cards later, Panka was out.
The remaining players have dwindled to about 250 — roughly the number LAPT President David Carrion was saying would represent a decent turnout for this first LAPT Bahamas Main Event (!). But as we’ve been chronicling all day, such expectations were easily exceeded, and now we can report by just how much.
Incredibly the $3K event attracted a total of 736 entries, with 532 unique players and 204 reeentries.
That turnout means a $1,945,248 prize pool, just a little shy of the tour’s all-time biggest prize pool at LAPT7 Brazil where the R$4,411,080 prize pool there translated to about $1.975 million.
The top 111 finishers will be dividing the cash, with $4,860 representing a min-cash and a cool $367,928 for first place. Again, that mark just barely misses setting a new high for the LAPT, not quite what Dominik Nitsche earned for winning LAPT2 Argentina when he took away $381,030 for finishing first.
